About Me

If you want contagious joy and a greater awareness of menopause, Sandy is your Go To. Wherever she goes, laughter abounds. Despite losing a family member to suicide, Sandy is committed to helping others find joy even in the darkest corners. The sun always rises.

Long before the creation of HappyPause™ Balm, Sandy Davies was born and raised in the American Midwest in the state of Kansas. Sandy immigrated to Australia upon completion of her master’s degree in social policy at the University of New South Wales as a Rotary Fellow and Ambassador of Goodwill for Rotary International.

After graduate school, tourism beckoned. Sandy operated an adventure tourism business with her partner on World Heritage Listed Fraser Island for decades. The tropical idylls of Far North Queensland begged for semi-retirement… or so she thought.

An allergic reaction to a treatment for intimate dryness during perimenopause launched Sandy out of semi-retirement. She is now the Queensland based formulator and founder of the award winning HappyPause™ Balm. As a bit of a rebel who struggles taking ‘No’ for an answer, Sandy turned the lack of a simple, preservative-free natural solution for vulvovaginal dryness into her mission.

The creation of HappyPause™ is Sandy’s ‘Yes.’ The most recent research shows that almost 80% of women over 40 will experience vulval vaginal dryness, yet because such issues were never spoken about in past generations, treatment options remain sparse and relatively unchanged for decades. Dryness caused by peri/post menopause, chemotherapy, endometriosis, Type 1 Diabetes, endurance training and other issues should never be a death knell to doing the active things we love, which is why creating HappyPause™ has brought Sandy so much joy in her second spring.

At every chapter of her life Sandy has thrived on giving back as a part of her ethos. Be it through Habitat for Humanity, Planned Parenthood, building projects in Guatemala, reading for The Royal Society for the Blind, fundraising for Shed the Light Orphanage in Nepal, or contributing through Lifeline Australia, giving back has always mattered.
In this HappyPause™ era, Sandy’s Pay It Forward partner is The Period Project. The Period Project is an arm of the National Homeless Collective coordinated by 2021 Victorian Australian of the Year Donna Stolzenberg. When not packaging and processing HappyPause™ orders and heightening menopause awareness, Sandy enjoys writing and spending time with her husband and their dog Karma on the isolated beaches of the tropics.

Business book Courage and Confidence and the anthology Sacred Promise with Dr Tererai Trent from Women Making a Difference Press will be available mid 2022.

Sandy’s book The Power to Rise Above about resilience, suicide prevention and teenage bullying will be available in 2023.
