Leave a Bequest

Leaving a bequest is a powerful statement of values and intention. A gift in your Will ensures your commitment to gender equality lives on, creating change for future generations of women, girls and gender-diverse people.

How to make a Bequest

1. Reflect on your values.

A Will is so much more than a legal document. It’s your opportunity to honour what you hold dear. Take time to reflect on what would be meaningful to you — and the kind of future you want to help build.

2. Talk with your loved ones.

Share your intention with friends and family. And speak with your solicitor or financial adviser to make sure your wishes are captured correctly.

3. Choose the gift that suits you.

You can leave a percentage of your estate, a specific sum, or a residuary gift. Every form of bequest is welcome and every gift makes a difference.

"We have our eye on the same destination – a sustainable future where Indigenous people are recognised for their wisdom and honoured for their culture."

- Dr. Jackie Huggins AM FAHA

"My feminism is strong; fierce; burning; alive. My feminism will be smart, intersectional and kind."

Frequently asked questions

You certainly don’t have to, but we’d love to know. Hearing about your intention allows us to thank you personally and keep you connected to the work your gift will one day support.

Gifts to our grant-making arm, the Victorian Women’s Benevolent Trust, and our harm prevention entity, the Dugdale Trust for Women & Girls, are fully tax deductible. We recommend speaking with your financial adviser about how this applies to your estate.

Yes. When you notify us of your gift, we can talk through how it might be directed, such as, our General Grants program, a specific focus area, or an existing Sub-Fund that reflects your values.

Absolutely. A bequest of $100,000 or more can establish a permanent named Sub-Fund within the Victorian Women’s Benevolent Trust, creating a lasting legacy in your name or in honour of someone you love.

You can update your Will at any time. We understand that life changes, and there’s no obligation once you’ve expressed an intention to leave a gift.

Our Executive Director Dr Kirsten Abernethy is always happy to have a confidential conversation about leaving a gift. There’s no pressure; just a genuine conversation about what matters to you.
