Essie Burbridge Sub-Fund
Established in 2007, the Essie Burbridge Sub-Fund honours the life and legacy of Essie (Agnes) Burbridge OAM. Essie first came to the attention of the Victorian Women’s Trust when she was nominated for the ‘Ordinary Women Extraordinary Lives’ exhibition in 2001.
Inspired by her tireless community work in Melbourne’s western suburbs, specifically her desire to challenge racism and promote social cohesion, the Trust initially established the Essie Burbridge Community Award, which later evolved into this Sub-Fund. It continues her vision of a vibrant, inclusive society by supporting projects that build bridges across cultures and promote the values necessary to combat racism.
