The Nancye and John Cain Sub-Fund
Established in 2021, the Nancye & John Cain Sub-Fund celebrates the vision and generosity of the Cain family. Nancye’s story is one of lifelong dedication and quiet kindness; her legacy includes 30 years of volunteering at Alkira, ten years supporting children at Kalparrin, and many years as a home tutor teaching migrant English. John’s legacy, meanwhile, captured the public imagination through reformist leadership; after his election to the Victorian Parliament in 1976 and assumption of the ALP leadership in 1981, he served as Victorian Premier for eight and a half years across three successful election terms.
Though they contributed in markedly different ways, Nancye and John both dedicated their lives to service, working tirelessly to improve the world around them. This fund continues their shared commitment by assisting projects that support women, girls, and gender-diverse people living with disability, including those with hearing loss, to ensure their full participation, civic engagement, and leadership.
Purpose and Focus
How does the Nancye and John Cain Sub-Fund support women?
The Nancye & John Cain Sub-Fund supports initiatives that address the barriers in society that prevent full and equal enjoyment for people with disabilities. It empowers recipients to have independence, choice, and control in their own lives, fostering leadership and community involvement.
