About Me

For the past 12 years, Louise Johnson has been the Chief Executive Officer for the Victorian Assisted Reproductive Treatment Authority (VARTA). In this role she is responsible for the administration of aspects of the Assisted Reproductive Treatment Act 2008 (Vic) including: the registration of IVF clinics in Victoria; and the monitoring and translation of research findings relating to fertility and assisted conception to inform the general public about fertility, infertility, assisted reproductive treatment and the health and welfare of children born from treatment. Since 1 March 2017, responsibilities include management of the donor registers including associated information and support services .
With a passion for public health and education and over 20 years in management, Louise has managed social marketing campaigns and education programs in the health sector. Her experience encompasses industry and professional regulation. Louise is a previous Chairperson for Women’s Health Victoria, previous member of the Embryo Research Licensing Committee and a current member of the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.
