Wellsprings for Women is a women’s organisation that provides educational and social support to vulnerable and disadvantaged women in Dandenong, Casey and Cardinia. Wellsprings for Women aims to build women’s skills and capacity to improve their social, economic and emotional wellbeing.
Wellsprings provides educational services at their base and through home visits to women who are isolated and vulnerable. The programs range from English language classes, to homework support to young women in primary and secondary schools. Women can attend computer skills, sewing, art and craft classes and children can attend playgroup, and a Girl Guides program. Cooking groups, business skills, parenting, social enterprise and a women’s health and safety program are all part of Wellsprings’ services.
When women support other women, our community, society and the world become safer places to live in. Standing With You is a project designed to tap into women’s abilities to care for each other especially when some women are at risk of losing their traditional support networks due to experiences of family violence. This funding will enable us to engage in a series of workshops to raise women’s awareness of the various forms of family violence and the challenges and complexities that face women in their community living in abusive relationships. The project aims to advocate for women’s rights to live a safe and fulfilling life and to be supported in a woman's decision to leave her violent partner without being stigmatised or ostracised from her community.

Standing With You will train migrant and refugee women to recognise family violence. They will learn to identify the root causes, social norms, and behaviours that contribute to the prevalence of family violence, and how women who are at risk of family violence can support each other. The workshops will include discussions on how migrant and refugee women face additional pressures to remain in abusive relationships to keep families together despite the harm done to women and their children.
