Melbourne Fringe democratises the arts. Their vision is cultural democracy – empowering anyone to realise their right to creative expression. Melbourne Fringe supports the development and presentation of artworks by, with and for the people of Melbourne, running the annual Melbourne Fringe Festival, the year-round venue Fringe Common Rooms at Trades Hall, and a range of arts sector leadership programs.

The Fay Marles Equal Opportunity Sub Fund

The Fay Marles Equal Opportunity Sub Fund supports projects that provide

  • leadership training to increase young women’s working knowledge of equal opportunity legislation, structures and processes,
  • research that strengthens knowledge of loopholes and gaps in equal opportunity legislation, with a view to system improvement and policy change, or
  • education and engagement on equal opportunity issues in workplaces, organisations and in the broader community.

In conjunction with our Design Fringe program, Melbourne Fringe will commence a gender equality initiative for female and non-binary designers.

The gender quality initiative comprises

  • subsidised registration for female or non-binary designers for our Design Fringe exhibition – calculated at the level of the gender pay gap (currently 14%),
  • female designer-led and -focused tours,
  • keynote presentation talk by a leading female designer, and
  • a mentoring program matching emerging female designers with leading established female designers.
