Blind Sports & Recreation Victoria

Blind Sports and Recreation Victoria (BSRV) enhances the lives of Victorian people who are blind or vision impaired through sport and recreation. Since their establishment in 1977 they have evolved into a small but thriving charity, which is setting the benchmark for blind sport and recreation in Australia. Supporting more than 1,200 members, Blind Sports and Recreation Victoria is encouraging people with no or low vision of all ages  to develop healthier and more active lifestyles.

JOAN HUDSON SUB-FUND

The Connecting up with others for comfort and a chance to share program is funded by the Joan Hudson Sub Fund.
The establishment of the Joan Hudson Sub Fund reflects Rosemary Geer’s desire to honour her mother Joan Hudson.
The Sub-Fund supports projects that provide:

  • positive and effective community supports for mothers and their children,
  • new and/or improved opportunities for respite care for mothers of children with high-need disabilities, or
  • practical support for young women from less advantaged backgrounds to access educational and academic opportunities.

Project: Connecting up with others for comfort and a chance to share

Grant type: Sub Fund
Amount:
$7,129
Year: 2019-20
Website:  www.blindsports.org.au/

This project will allow children who are blind or vision impaired to be active and make social connections through a series of safe, supported activities in their community. At the same time, their mothers will meet other mothers who have children with vision loss in a relaxing environment, where they can share their feelings and experiences, while enjoying pampering activities.

Trained coaches and assistants will manage these activities during each school term holiday period. This new project will help foster social inclusion by engaging young people with vision loss and their mothers—providing opportunities for social connection and respite.
