| The Tarka Project grew out of our on-going work around women and water. Thanks to private donor support, we were able to bring about a unique event in Melbourne on 27th February 2010 – Precious Music, Precious Water. Working with Spring Studio and The Boite. we created a community music event in two amazing parts: The first part featured the Whitehorse Orchestra performing the world premiere of Tarka, composed by Harry Williamson and Anthony Phillips. Harry is the son of Henry Williamson who wrote the children's classic, Tarka the Otter. The second part focussed on what we need to do in Victoria to provide proper stewardship of our water resources. This second part featured a fantastic line-up of artists, including Doug de Vries, Frank Jones, Michael Johnson, Invention in Time, Richard Frankland and Kavisha Mazzella, and the Northern Voices choir. There was a special tribute to Ngarrindjeri singer/songwriter Ruby Hunter, in place of her scheduled performance. Mary Crooks provided a narrative which linked the performances with insights about managing our water future. | In August 2009 Harry Williamson and Maribel Steel visited "Tarka Country" in North Devon. Their visit was reported by BBC Devon. |
